Advancing Innovation with PEPPOL

Our PEPPOL journey continued through participation in further EU-funded projects focused on eInvoicing, eProcurement, and eDelivery, notably incorporating blockchain technology on PEPPOL, thereby positioning us as pioneering 'first movers' in this innovative application.

2013 - 2015

NHS England — National PEPPOL Rollout

Building on our EU-level expertise, we were engaged by the UK Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) as Peppol Project Coordinator. Our work was central to implementing PEPPOL within the NHS England eProcurement Strategy. Our scope included: prioritising implementation across the NHS in England, supporting the creation of the PEPPOL Framework Agreement via the Crown Commercial Service, providing PEPPOL SMP capabilities for the NHS, defining NHS PEPPOL technical specifications for eInvoicing and eOrdering incorporating GS1 standards, and delivering a PEPPOL testing platform to certify service provider compliance within the NHS ecosystem.

• Managed the UK PEPPOL Authority and led the technical, governance, and stakeholder processes.
• The NHS PEPPOL Demonstration of Technology in 2015 was recognised as a landmark success.
• Enabled electronic transmission of Purchase Orders, Advanced Shipping Notes and Invoices using the four-corner model and exchange network.

2012 - 2017

OpenPeppol — Expanding the Ecosystem

Following the successful conclusion of the pilot project, our collaboration extended as we secured a contract with the OpenPEPPOL association. In this expanded capacity, we continued to lead the strategic engagement of governments as PEPPOL Authorities and spearheaded the broader business development initiatives for the PEPPOL network. Starting in 2012 with only five founding members, we played a decisive role in growing the PEPPOL community by securing the participation of numerous EU governments and major service providers. In parallel, we managed OpenPEPPOL's communication strategy, ensuring clear and consistent messaging to support adoption and implementation at scale.

2010 - 2012

The PEPPOL Large Scale Pilot Project

PEPPOL — Pan-European Public Procurement Online — began in 2008 as a multi-year project co-funded by the European Commission and 11 Member States, with the goal of harmonising public procurement processes and removing digital trade barriers across the EU. From its earliest stages, we played an instrumental role in transforming PEPPOL from a niche pilot into a widely adopted European framework. At a time when PEPPOL specifications were largely unknown, our team took the lead in engaging national governments, securing commitments from key authorities to adopt and implement PEPPOL standards.

• Government Engagement: We actively onboarded Member States as National PEPPOL Authorities, ensuring broad adoption and establishing a foundation for cross-border interoperability.
• First-Wave Implementation: We were pivotal in engaging the first service providers and multinational enterprises, building the initial PEPPOL community.
• Capacity Building: We developed the first PEPPOL Starter Kit, providing governments and organisations with the tools and knowledge needed to implement PEPPOL.
